On 1 August 2024, the CoRE-MOH AI Governance Roundtable for the Healthcare Sector was abuzz with excitement as Ms Yang Fan, Head of CoRE-SDO, unveiled the AI in Healthcare Standardisation Programme.

Ms Yang introduced the local Quality and Standards Ecosystem, underscoring the mission of the Singapore Standards Council (SSC). Attendees were introduced to the various types of standards and their critical links to regulatory frameworks. The spotlight then shifted to the Biomedical and Health Standards Committee (BHSC) and its technical committees, setting the stage for the launch of the anticipated AI in Healthcare Focus Group (FG-AI).

Ms Yang detailed the FG-AI’s exciting mission and its strategic connections with the Information Technology Standards Committee (ITSC) and the newly-established Coordinating Committee on AI (CCAI). The presentation wrapped up with an inspiring overview of standards development on both national and international fronts, culminating in a passionate call for broader participation.

The response was positive—CoRE-SDO received numerous inquiries and enthusiastic new volunteers eager to contribute to FG-AI. As we gear up for the inaugural FG-AI meeting in September, the stage is set for pioneering efforts in AI standardisation for healthcare. The goal? To forge a robust standards framework that ensures cutting-edge AI technology delivers unparalleled efficiency with exceptional quality control for healthcare.
