The Biomedical and Health Standards Committee (BHSC) successfully concluded its 13th meeting on 28 June 2024, marking a new milestone in its ongoing efforts to advance health standards.

Dr Yong Chern Chet, Chair of the BHSC, warmly welcomed attendees in his opening speech, setting an enthusiastic tone for the proceedings.

The meeting featured a comprehensive review of the committee’s recent activities. Notably, four Technical Committees with new compositions were launched, including 45% new members and 39% female members. This move highlights the BHSC’s commitment to expanding its scope and promoting inclusivity.

The committee also discussed progress in standards review and the exploration of new standards, alongside the successful execution of several launch and promotion events.

A key highlight was the review of the Strategic Planning Session (SPS). The BHSC is entering a new phase of development by forming focus groups dedicated to Precision Medicine, AI in Healthcare, and Supplement Safety. This initiative is part of a strategic three-year workplan aimed at advancing standardization in the biomedical and health sectors.

Additionally, the committee examined its international memberships and activities, and discussed plans for revitalising national mirror working groups. These efforts underscore the BHSC’s dedication to maintaining a global perspective while addressing national needs.

The meeting was followed by a partner appreciation lunch, during which several working group convenors discussed upcoming standardisation plans in the Health Informatics domain.

The gathering concluded on a high note, with members anticipating promising progress ahead.
